This week, Dr. Wafik Moustafa, Chairman of the British Arab Network, was a guest speaker at the 15th Annual International Human Rights Summit held at the United Nations Headquarters, ECOSOC  Chamber. The Summit brought together youth participants from over 60 countries and six continents to share, encourage and inspire global peace and tolerance through human rights education with the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It was also attended by Ambassadors and Counsellors from the Permanent Mission at the United Nations.

Commenting, Dr. Moustafa said:

“I was delighted and honoured to speak at the 15th Annual International Human Rights Summit. I met with inspiring young people from across the world, who are beacons for human rights in their countries. I also had a the pleasure to meet with diplomats and speak about human rights in the Arab world. Fundamental human rights are things you are allowed to do. They give you protection against harm from other people and the state. When people are not aware of their rights they often face injustice, discrimination and oppression. Many people in the Arab world are not even aware of basic human rights and are not allowed to exercise them. There has never been a greater need for global advocacy for human rights, dialogue, understanding, tolerance and peace. The youth participants at the summit are the global advocates who can make the difference in the world today.”
